January: A Time For Brides

Since working in the wedding industry I have definitely noticed a surge of wedding inquiries in the month of January.  If you are newly engaged or seeking wedding info, January is the month for you. On January 10th, 2010 there will be the Carolina Wedding Guide Bridal Expo from 12pm - 3pm.  Then, The Balcony will be having an open house from 1pm - 4pm.

Both of these events will have countless local vendors, tastings, information, and coupons! I will be attending both of these events as a guest. I know many of the area's vendors so feel free ask me any questions. Let me know if you would like to meet after the events are over to talk about your wedding!

This is prime booking season at Airlie Gardens, also.  Call my office phone (910)798-7709 to schedule a tour or to request more information.

Red Roses

Red Roses are a timeless classic that are a wonderful choice when you want a wedding that is * simply elegant * in every sense of the words.  My bride, Rana, who is getting married on the Battleship North Carolina in April is doing just that.  Her theme is Black, White, and Red.  There is some military blue thrown in there, since her Husband-to-be will be wearing his uniform.  Rana is using Wendy Wright of A Beautiful Event to do her ceremony and reception (held at the Hilton). It is up to Wendy and me to transform the dramatic presence of the Battleship deck into the dream ceremony spot for Rana and Carl.
After meeting with Wendy, it was decided upon to have red roses as the predominate flower.  For Rana's Bouquet, it will be a very tight ball-like design of charlotte roses, bacari roses, white hydrangeas, and white lilies. Her Bridesmaids, who will be wearing black and white, will hold white hydrangeas and red roses.  The arbor will have a cascading spray of red flowers with white accents.  The aisle way will have four row markers of red roses with greenery and red bows down the remaining aisle. I can't wait!

KMI Photography

I met Kevin from KMI Photography today and we had a great lunch! We had a lot to talk about both being UNCW alumni and in the Wilmington wedding industry. Kevin is a super sweet guy and great photographer as you can see, I can't wait to work with him again in the future. Also, Kevin does a photo booth, too! He sets up a little backdrop off to the side of your event and friends and family can come and take the silliest pictures they desire! I have seen this done and it is quite entertaining. FYI, refer a booking client his way and he'll give you a sweet gift certificate!

Real Bride's from The Bride's Book

Check out The Bride's Blog for this week's "Real Bride."  This wedding took place at Airlie Gardens in Wilmington, NC.  I may particularly like Airlie Gardens becuase I work there, but it is hand's down the most beautiful place to be married in North Carolina!

Holiday Time

With the Holiday Season here, it is time to celebrate! Don't get lost in the details and forget to have fun. Do your party right and hire a planner. It is not too late to have the ultimate Holiday bash planned for you! Picture this: You and the most exciting people you know at the River Room in historic Downtown Wilmington, DJ Professionals will turn-up the music, your favorite food and drinks will be served, and all you have to do is mingle...

Holiday time also means changes as well. Possibly a new ring? Or a baby on the way? Whatever the reason may be, I want to help you commemorate the occasion! Let me know your ideas and we can go from there, MonicaTockman@gmail.com .

Pale Blue

I met with my new bride, Lindsay, this past weekend to discuss wedding plans.  She will be using my Pale Blue service of week-of wedding coordination.  This is where Lindsay will arrange and plan for her wedding up until a week before her wedding, then I will take over.  I will do vendor confirmations, bridal schedule print-outs, rehearsal night, and full wedding day ceremony/reception prep and execution. If she needs me for extra assistance outside of her plan it is billed at an hourly rate.  She will be getting married at St. Thomas Preservation Hall and using the colors Eggplant, Sage, and Brown.  There was mention of fuchsia mixed in there slightly.  I am so excited to see how the floral arraignments work out, I know Lindsay is very interested in using calla lilies, which are my favorite!

Lindsay met with Verzaal's Florist in Wilmington, NC and also Hart's Florist in Burgaw, NC, but has not picked yet.  For confirmed vendors she has Swann Media Productions lined up to do her videography, Active Entertainment for music, and Angie's of Chris's Restaurant for catering.

Flo & Robbie Berry October 24th, 2009

This wedding was especially important to me because of the people I was working with. I came into the picture about two months before the wedding, but there was still A LOT to be done. Flo not only used my coordination and planning services, but also had me help with design. A lot of time and group effort went into this event to make it a joyous day. Flo and Robbie's faces were simply glowing the whole time. I would do it all over again if I could! It was held at St. Thomas Preservation Hall in downtown Wilmington, NC. Catering was done by Angie's of Chris's Restaurant, music and DJ by Active Entertainment, photography by Kristopher Gerner, Flowers by Hart's Florist.

About Me

I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree Magna Cum Laude in Communication Studies at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. I love meeting new people, helping them, being creative, and working with details! I was told that “if you can plan a wedding, you can plan anything.” So, I wanted to reach for the top. I have been working at Airlie Gardens since January 2009 doing Event Sales and on-site Wedding Coordination. My true passion is doing full wedding coordination and thus, Something Blue Productions came into being. All the hard work and stress is completely worth it when I see my bride thrilled and enjoying her day! I cannot express how important your wedding day is to me. I feel the weight of your special day on my shoulders and I believe that makes all the difference in my performance. I work with my brides and grooms, I listen, and I am there for them. This is one of the most exciting times of your life and I will help you enjoy it to the fullest!
